Name: Phil Callaghan
Bio: Coach Callaghan is currently in his fifth year as an employee of Olentangy Local Schools and Orange Middle School, where he teaches mathematics. He began his teaching career in 1984 at St. Francis DeSales High School in Columbus. In 1985, he was named the Head Baseball Coach and in 1989, he assumed the positions of Assistant Principal and Athletic Director while guiding the baseball program. During his 10 years at DeSales, Coach Callaghan compiled a (207-74) record while winning nine Sectional, three District, and one Regional Championship. In 1995, Coach Callaghan started the program at Dublin Scioto High School and during his 11 years in charge, the Irish compiled a (253-66) record while winning 10 Sectionals, four Districts, and one Regional Championship. They also won five OCC Championships. The 1998 Scioto team finished as the State Runner-up and ranked 11th in the United States by USA Today.
Coach Callaghan earned his degree in Math Education from The Ohio State University in 1984 and played baseball for the Buckeyes before starting his coaching career. He earned a Masters in Educational Administration from OSU in 2004. A graduate of St. Francis DeSales High School in 1980, he was a standout in both football and baseball. The 1979 baseball team won the AA State Championship.
In 2008, Coach Callaghan was elected into the Ohio High School Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame. Retired from baseball for four years, he returned to coaching with the chance to guide the Orange High School program in 2010. He is honored to have an incredible wife in Marybeth and in their 19 years of marriage, they have been blessed with three children. Leah is a Junior, and Cole is a Freshman at Orange HS, and Will is in 4thgrade at Walnut Creek.
